ABOUT

Founded in 2015, Jing Mo Tong is a non-profit organization specializing in lion dancing and various styles of Chinese martial arts. Our goal is to offer cultural experience preservation through free classes, educational demonstrations, and lion dances for auspicious events. Just like our current members, we are an open group that welcomes students from all backgrounds.

Our main focus is the ancient art of Lion Dancing. The roots of Jing Mo Tong's lion dance style originate from Dr. Gary Yuen, who brought lion dancing to Lincoln,  in the mid 1990's. He studied lion dancing in San Francisco, and Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu is the foundation for our dancing. This style of dancing stresses strong movements and stance work which reflects a dancer's martial arts skills. Although we have added new and modern elements to our dance, we make sure to never forget what was taught by Dr. Yuen. Lion dance in Lincoln, Nebraska is only possible because of Dr. Yuen, and for that we will be forever grateful.

Our instructors have over 50 years of combined experience. Not only do they have many years of lion dance experience, but they are also practioners of many forms of martial arts. With backgrounds in Judo, Brazilian Ju Jitsu, White Crane kung fu, Choy Lay Fut kung fu, modern wushu, and Tai Chi, we feel our instructors' various martial arts backgrounds help train the members to be stronger and more disciplined dancers and martial artists.

We at Jing Mo Tong strive to provide opportunites that encourages team work, confidence, knowledge, friendship, and respect. We also provide the opportunity to participate in cultural performances in our community and surrounding areas. This allows us to continually educate our staff, volunteers, and students as we share our knowledge to educate the community and open its eyes to what 5,000 years of tradition has to offer.

Thank you for visiting.
